Climbing & Mountaineering

Just got back from a break with the family in the Lakes. The kids were recovering from colds and were not up to doing much, but we had a great day on Yewbarrow, scrambling up to Great Door, then traversing the summit to Dore Head. We tried to go down Stirrup Crag, but conditions were not ideal for them, so went back to the saddle and descended steep broken ground, then traversed the scree to Dore Head.

Cloud inversion and a brief Brocken Spectre (twice now in 3 visits).

The next day we did Whin Rigg, south end of Wast Water, very windy, but did it quickly in clearing conditions.

On the last day we did Buckbarrow, which is a very easy walk, saw a fox and good views to the Scafell massif, not much snow up there with the temp at valley floor at 8 degrees.

Great Door in the clag.

Seconded Tony, I always pack a family sized bar, plus a flask of hot chocolate in winter.

Stuart, Chocolate bribery always worked for me - payment on achievement of targets in small and regular doses!

Nice one Jim. We've all been recovering from colds as well. We're off to the Lakes in August for a week and I'd be chuffed if I can get my lot to do half as much as this.
