Crofty replied to Crofty's discussion For Sale or Swap, The Big Walks by Ken WilsonA 5pm wake up saw me in the car and away from York by 5:15am. No traffic and another early riser or maybe racer in a Passat to follow between Blubberhouses and Settle and I was driving up this secluded valley around 7:30am.
Much to the astonishment to the people booting up next to a couple of cars where the tarmac finished I carried on driving up the unsurfaced road leading to Gatesgarth Pass, I was only following what the Scrambles in the Lakes book said. 'Park on the right just past…

With Diane able to wrangle a Thursday off, on top of her normal Friday, we decided to steal a march on the hoards and head to the Lakes, pre easter long weekend.
We tried a new campsite for us, the farm one at Stonethwaite, which is a good location for walking and climbing. It is not super well equipped, only has water and toilets, but you can have open fires as long as they are raised off the floor.
We arrived late Wednesday and set up camp, the farmer visiting for the payment…
